Crafting a Unique British Packaging Identity
At the heart of this project was the desire to strike a balance between tradition and innovation. We began by conducting in-depth research into British-inspired packaging designs, focusing on elements that evoked nostalgia and timelessness. After brainstorming with the client, we landed on the name “Beckford’s,” a distinctive title that encapsulates the quintessential British charm while remaining unclaimed by other brands.
To convey the greatness of these classic sweets, we developed the working title “The Great British Boiled Sweet Mix.” This direction allowed us to build a cohesive story around the product, emphasising its roots in British confectionery tradition.
One of the major challenges was the lack of a clear window on the packaging material. To overcome this, we meticulously illustrated the sweets based on samples provided by Crilco Confectionery. Each boiled sweet was brought to life through realistic illustrations, highlighting their vibrant colours and gooey centres. These illustrations were further refined into a captivating group shot for the front of the pack, setting the tone for bold and inviting visuals.
The final design was printed in bold Pantone colours, ensuring the packaging popped on retail shelves. Our expertise in colour retouching ensured flawless CMYK production, while our streamlined digital proofing system allowed us to meet Crilco’s tight deadlines for the product launch.
