In 2010, I stood on a print shop floor watching a product launch unravel weeks before retail launch.
The design looked strong on screen.
On press, it didn’t behave.
The client faced a choice:
Costly reprint — or accept below-par packaging.
I had raised the risks earlier in the process.
But like many growing brands, they had trusted a polished design agency who lacked packaging production expertise.
That moment wasn’t rare.
I kept seeing the same pattern:
– Strong product.
– Ambitious growth plans.
– Retail deadlines locked in.
– Packaging decisions made without experience guiding them.
When complexity increased, confidence collapsed.
And the financial risk landed on the founders.
Why Goulding Media exists
After watching too many brands cornered into print compromises, I stopped pointing out problems and started directing projects.

What we believe
Packaging is the largest advertising space most brands ever pay for.
It’s also the one most likely to be designed by someone who’s never stood on a press.
We believe that’s where most of the commercial damage happens. A pack that works on screen but fails on press costs the brand three times: in print, on shelf, and in trust with the retailer. A pack that wins at shelf but can’t be produced cleanly costs the brand on every reprint. And a pack that’s been designed without the buyer in mind is a project that hasn’t really started yet; it’s a problem waiting to be discovered.
Packaging isn’t decoration. It’s leverage.
The brands that treat it that way end up with the asset everyone else has to react to. The ones that don’t end up wondering what went wrong.
